In this month’s edition of the Staff News, we will focus on the ongoing Staff Secondment Programe.
Online directory Articlesbase defines Secondment as a situation where an employee temporarily changes their job roles within the same company or transfers to another organization for an agreed period of time. According to Articlesbase, they usually last between 3 to 24 months.
At Nation Media Group, the programme has been carved to host staff from Monitor Publications Limited (MPL) and Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) giving them an opportunity to gain exposure and experience within the same functions here in Kenya. The programme is currently focused on the following key areas of the company i.e. Editorial, Advertising, Marketing, Radio, TV and Finance.
We currently have seven candidates on the one year programme. Upon arrival in the country, the selected candidates are given an immediate supervisor and mentor to assist and guide them throughout the programme.
As a result of the programme, the candidates will be exposed to the best practices within the company, business operations in a more advanced market in an effort of skilling and eventually replicating the skills acquired back home.
Candidates are selected through a competitive process which involves the review process, feedback as well as their management team’s recommendation. The applications are further scrutinized and vetted with the successful candidates being selected.
According to our HR Manager Ms. Pauline Kiraithe, this has been an ongoing process over the years, over a shorter attachment period. This year’s programme is now longer and more structured for the country office training requirement.
Candidates currently in the programme include:
MPL: Alex B. Atuhaire (Editorial), Charity Byarugaba (Marketing), Joseph Beyanga (Radio, Qfm) and NTV Uganda’s Maurice Mugisha
MCL: Prosper Lawrence (Advertising), Thomas Mosoba (Editorial), Athumaini Issa (Finance)
