The Nation Media Group’s attention has been drawn to Short Text Messages (SMS) and e-mails linking the group and its executives to the political violence going on in Rift Valley Province and other parts of the country.

We would like to inform Kenyans that there is no truth whatsoever in the messages, which are being circulated through mobile phones and the
Internet.

Nation Media Group is a law-abiding and responsible corporate citizen with a commitment to serving the public. We share the agony and distress of our fellow Kenyans in this difficult period and support every effort being made to resolve the national crisis.

I do not fully understand this public notice. Perhaps excerpts of some of the messages could do.

Eitherway, this comes as no surprise. NMG as a corporate citizen might want to stay impartial but employees have their own partisan views.

Perhaps, one or two may have attended some pre-election 'a million per plate' luncheon, exchanged business cards with lobbyists expecting 'something' after the elections. This is how corporate social responsibility works with capitalism. Exploit the masses, make billions, throw back at them a few millions and spread the news world over from the top of the tallest mountain in town. But make sure the big brother is happy.

I predict an extremely dangerous situation if the media is sucked into this labyrinth during this volatile and trying moments.

Our healthcare institutions may also sink into this catch 22.

Nation media was giving true results of vote tallying until Kivuitu and Kibaki turned tables at the eleventh hour. Nation was forced, I guess to change the figures and publish what the ECK had provided.
Please keep doing the good job. Educate people why they should not kill their neighbour just because they speak different mother tongues.

The debacle that is was meant to be an election was a reckless act that needs to be unequivocally condemned by all. Rigging (percieved or otherwise) is an act that hurts the losers and their sympathizers.

As long as Nation entertains the likes of Charles Onyango-Obbo spinning mischievious-sounding articles trying to convince us to accept Kibaki's dubious victory on the grounds that:

1. Rigging (and violence) is part of democracy;

2. America rigged in ABC so therefore it is OK for anybody else to rig.

In the current atmospere, let us leave anything that smirks of spin-doctoring to Dr(?) Alfred Mutua and the amoral politicians.

Any writing that seems to lean, especially towards the side that has lost all goodwill, will result in the media house getting caught in the on-going mud-slinging campaign.

Remember, there is no absurdity in politics.

Does it surprise anyone that text messages and e-mails are being used to tarnish the reputation and integrity of others? Who is responsible for this? I do suspect that it is a scheme that is being used by some prominent individuals to divert and change the course of the truth of the matter. Big names have been linked with instigating and sponsoring the violence in Kenya.

I am not suprised that this war is quickly finding its way into the cyberspace. There are a lot of lies that are being told on the internet. Facts are being distorted and information bend in the favor of a few individuals. I urge fellow Kenyans to weigh what is being put on the web before making any judgements. Peace messages should be posted on the web instead. Kenyans are getting tired. We need peace to prevail at any cost.

Odinga can as well wait for the next five years if at all will not be in prison for murdering and destroying. After all prison is his second home. Which other truth do you want? Kibaki is the president and was sworn according to Kenya law. Talk of Odinga folks and not all Kenyans.

David, I don't get it. Does it matter really at the end of the day if my people are killed. Listen to what Obama said the other day, the fight is not between race, gender, tribe, or religion; it is between the future and the present. Sorry to say that Raila and Kibaki represent that past. The past where the cream of our country; University students would hurt innocent Kenyans because they disagreed with their adminstration. When Kenya did not have a voice in 1960s they opted for violence, when they did not have a voice in 1990s they opted for the street. Do you think we would have needed that if we controled the house both in colonialism and in Moi's reign. Come on Raila/ODM can pass whatever Bill they want in the house. Why did we need violence. Look where it got us?

Hi to my fellow Kenyans. I'm a million miles away from you my brothers and sisters, I write this to you not because I'm comfortable, but crying for justice and democracy our forefathers fought for, then a formless being (Kibaki) wants to erode it in one day!!! Tell you what, Kibaki, if you were thinking it's simple to steal democracy and stay comfortable, you were thinking wrong.

There are so many rumours that have been doing rounds all over against Nation. While this is unfortunate, I am also suspecting the hand of Nation's biggest competitors who may be creating negative sentiments to edge Nation out of business zones and thereafter leverage on the situation by increasing their market share therein. During the whole of elections and aftermath, the only neutral media house all along has in fact been Nation. It's just so unfortunate that during the wave, some political sides had adopted an "either you are with us or with them" kind of attitude, which automatically meant even neutral media houses were taken to side with the other side. This is so unfortunate and should be condemned by all level headed moderates out there. I therefore appeal to all Kenyans to ignore the silly rumours making rounds on the net. Nation, congratulations for the good work.

If anything, the inflammatory statements are from employees of the Nation Media Group in their personal capacities. NMG has done a commendable job, and should continue in the same spirit. As for my brothers and sisters in the diaspora who are still firing messages of hatred and anger, take the next flight home and lead the war, if you really value it. Otherwise, just shut up since you are just fuelling a fire that is already out of control. The ethnic killings should never go unpunished; a new election is only viable after a new constitution, and resettlement of people so that they can vote.
